Assessment description
Reducing restrictive interventions has been a major focus in mental health over the past 10 or so years and remains a mental health priority. Restrictive and coercive practices are well understood to result in disengagement and a lack of trust with mental health services. This can result in reduced adherence to treatment and poorer outcomes for consumers.
This assessment provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the theories that underpin clinical practice. More specifically, you will construct knowledge about individual care needs, care planning and care implementation, as well as evaluating different strategies that are both safe and conducive to quality recovery-oriented mental health care.
Assessment details
In the format of an essay, critically examine the ways in which personal choice and individual preference can be integrated into mental health care with a consumer experiencing a severe mental illness (SMI). Your response should include the effective use of one (1) evidence-based therapeutic communication strategy which promotes self-determination, whilst also strengthening engagement in treatment.
The table below provides you with guidance on each section of your essay. Your essay should adhere to academic writing standards. It is recommended to use this guidance in conjunction with the assessment rubric to understand how your essay will be assessed and graded.
